To the Aucklanders who have chosen to move to our city: Welcome to Your New Home.
We hear there is a busload (or equivalent) of you moving to Hamilton every week, given the dire conditions in your hometown. In the beginning, the thought scared us (hence the lateness of our greeting, sorry).
We have to admit that we wondered things like: will our coffee become bad to accommodate the quality to which you are accustomed?
Or: Will you make a habit of randomly turning your ignition off while driving along Wairere Drive in order to mimic the feeling of being stuck in traffic, so as to remember happier times in a bigger city?
Perhaps the most frightening thought of all is that you might sit, tucked away somewhere in a labyrinthine Northern suburb, leaving the house only for groceries and weekend trips back to Auckland, and never really realise that you are living in the most exciting city in New Zealand.
So, consider the post below both a welcome and an orientation of sorts. We know you’ll fall in love with Hamilton as much as the rest of us have.
